The
second arrondissement has a very business feel to it. The buildings in it are
very classically constructed but with less flair and more stability. I’m not
sure if it was the overcast weather or the lack of sleep, but it had a very
solemn yet mature feel. It took us three days to even find it. I am determined it is only about 3 square buildings
wide. By the time we actually found it,
we walked half a block and were already in another district.
The first place we went was to a
small side street behind the Palais Royal. There stands a beautiful statue in
the center of a round about where there is a solider riding a rearing horse. I
had seen the statue before, but this time it stood out more to me. The detail
of the horse engraved in the thick metallic stone is surreal and very life
like. To make it even better, it is tucked away in a round about street
bombarded by buildings on every side. That’s the beauty of Paris; you find
works of art in every kink and corner. We found the Tim Hotel with a modest
price of 180€ a night for a single room. We chose this hotel because it fit the
criteria and my moms boyfriend is named Tim so I thought they would enjoy this
one—love you momma.
We were stopped by
an interesting window display of leaning books that I absolutely loved. I made
Taylor stop traffic for a minute to snap a pic of me leaning with them. After
our quick photo shoot we found where there were A LOT more books: at the
Bibliothèque National de France right across the street. We wondered inside and
were greeted by a very unhappy women confused on why we were there, I mumbled
some poor French and we made our way past her and to the help desk. After about
10 minutes of broken French and very little comprehension, the help lady
directed us to a desk where I’m pretty sure we made accounts at the library.
After a half hour of signing up for things we still don’t know, we decided to
sneak a few pictures and head back to our cozy apartment for the rest of our
blogging. Although I don’t know exactly what we signed up for, it was
absolutely beautiful. Books lined the high towering walls with an elegant
stained glass dome overhead. One day, when my library conversation French has
improved, I hope to go back and actually do what I am supposed to do there—whatever
that is.
As
we walked back to the metro we found a Fleuriste shop and a young bride with
her family inside ordering her perfect bouquets for the wedding. We stopped by
a local market to find the prices of milk to be 1.28€, eggs a bit expensive for
4.22€ and steak for 22.98€/kg. We also found a bizarre Asian market so of
course we bought some Chinese candy and funny sodas for the not-so-long voyage
home.
